Gender Exploration Group
Gender can be a beautiful, complex, and sometimes challenging topic. If you are experiencing questions or confusion related to your gender, or if you identify as transgender or gender-expansive, navigating society's expectations alongside your own internal knowing can feel isolating.
You are not alone in this journey. The Gender Exploration Group at North Star Counseling is an ongoing support group for adults who want to explore gender and trans-related topics in a safe, inclusive, and deeply supportive environment.
What We Discuss
There are challenges regarding what society defines, what family says, what friends think, and what we actually feel and know to be true about ourselves. While we may face the pressure of who others think we should be, your gender is not their business or their decision.
Led by affirming counseling professionals, this group provides a space to explore your thoughts, feelings, worries, fears, and celebrations. Topics often include:
- Exploring identity (transgender, gender fluid, genderqueer, non-binary).
- The emotional and social aspects of transitioning.
- Navigating family dynamics and the coming-out process.
- Managing societal pressures and minority stress.
- Celebrating milestones and authentic self-expression.

It is important to note that this group is led by counseling professionals, not medical doctors. Therefore, we cannot provide medical guidance or advice related to hormones or surgical procedures. However, we are deeply connected to the affirming healthcare community and can provide excellent referrals for safe, friendly medical resources you might need.
