Insurance can seem very complicated but we will help make it as simple as possible. Please feel free to contact us with questions or call the customer service number on the back of your insurance card for details about your plan.
In-Network
Therapy fees vary based on your specific insurance plan, including deductibles, co-pays, and coinsurance. To confirm your exact out-of-pocket costs, we recommend calling the member services number on the back of your insurance card.
North Star Counseling and Trauma Specialists (NSCTS) will submit all clinical claims directly to your insurance provider. We will collect any remaining client responsibility (such as co-pays, coinsurance, or deductibles) as determined by your insurance company’s Explanation of Benefits (EOB)."
Out-of-Network
If we are out-of-network, you might be able to use out-of-network benefits. The client pays the full out of pocket fee to NSCTS. NSCTS will provide a superbill (receipt) to the client. Client then files superbills with their insurance provider for reimbursement of a portion of their out of pocket expenses. Not all insurances allow superbills. Please contact your insurance company to verify this option.
Questions To Verify Benefits
Key Questions to ask when calling your insurance provider to ensure counseling services are covered and to determine any out-of-pocket costs you may have:
- Is my plan 'In-Network' or 'Out-of-Network' with this provider?
- Do I have a deductible for mental health services?
- If yes: "How much of that deductible have I met so far this year?"
- What is my Co-pay or Co-insurance once my deductible is met?
- Note: A co-pay is usually a flat fee (e.g., $30), while co-insurance is a percentage (e.g., 20%).
- Is there a limit on the number of therapy sessions covered per year?
- Do I need a 'Prior Authorization' or a referral from my primary care doctor before my first session?
- Does my plan cover 'Telehealth' (Video) sessions? (Use CPT code 90837 with a 95 or GT modifier if they ask for specifics).
Superbill Process
- Pay for your session: You pay the full private pay reate at the time of your appointment.
- Receive your Superbill: We will provide you with a Superbill.
- Submit to Insurance: You submit the superbill to your insurance company.
- Get Reimbursed: The insurance company may cover a portion of the cost which will be paid directly to you.
